Hi, I’m Kara Kurcz.

Mindfulness Built for Real Life

For almost 30 years, I have worked inside high-pressure environments where stress, urgency, emotional intensity, and constant demands were part of everyday life.

As an investigative producer, director, executive producer, entrepreneur, and host of the Webby-nominated podcast Oh Gross!, I spent decades navigating fast-moving productions, leadership challenges, difficult stories, financial uncertainty, and the pressure that often comes with building businesses and working in the entertainment industry.

But life outside of work brought its own challenges.

A few years after I married my husband Brian, he was diagnosed with colon cancer, an experience that completely changed the way I understood stress, emotional regulation, health, and the connection between mind and body. It eventually pushed me to explore coaching, mindfulness, corporate communication, anger management, leadership practices, Reiki, and other tools to help people navigate stress more realistically and sustainably.

Over time, I realized mindfulness could not exist separately from real life. It had to work inside busy schedules, parenting, leadership, difficult conversations, deadlines, uncertainty, overstimulation, and everyday chaos.

For me, mindful moments rarely look perfect. They can be as simple as making my daughter’s lunch every morning and turning her sandwich into a different character each day. But unlike many influencers, I have under 10 minutes before rushing out the door for school. I learned that reducing stress can sometimes start with becoming more mindful of time and more intentional in small moments. It did not have to be complicated or time-consuming to matter. It could be as easy as changing the carrot nose on a sandwich to a tomato nose the next day.

Other times, it looked like finding calm amid conflict, breathing through stressful transitions, or recognizing feelings of uncertainty and approaching anger or emotional overwhelm with more curiosity.

That became the foundation for my philosophy and the reason I began calling myself a “Stresspert™.”

Stresspert™ is someone who recognizes that stress lives in our inboxes, our commute, our parenting, our work, and our homes. It can affect our health, communication, parenting, leadership, relationships, work, and home environments, but it isn't going away. The goal is not to eliminate it, but to learn how to ride the wave, be present, not perfect, and let stress stop running the show.

A Stresspert™ has learned to meet stress with presence rather than panic, to navigate life's inevitable friction without judgment, and to practice mindfulness one moment at a time by using everyday accessible tools and practical solutions.

Kara has appeared as an expert across national television networks and media platforms, bringing her experience in storytelling, communication, human behavior, and stress navigation into conversations about modern life, emotional awareness, and well-being.
